Start your day early and meet your guide at your hotel at 9:00 AM to drive to Old Cairo where you will see:

  • The Citadel of Saladin: This medieval fortress was built by the famous Muslim leader Salah al-Din (Saladin) in the 12th century to protect Cairo from the Crusaders. It is now a museum that houses several mosques, palaces, and exhibitions. The most prominent mosque is the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, also known as the Alabaster Mosque, which was built in the 19th century and has a stunning dome and minarets.

  • After that, visit The Hanging Church: This is one of the oldest and most famous Coptic churches in Cairo, dating back to the 7th century. It is called the Hanging Church because it was built on top of the ruins of a Roman fortress. It has a beautiful wooden roof that resembles Noah’s ark, and a rich collection of icons, paintings, and relics.

  • Abu Serga Church is believed to be built on the site where the Holy Family rested during their escape from King Herod. The church has a crypt, a well, and many icons that date back to different periods of history.

  • The Ben Ezra Synagogue: This is the oldest and most important Jewish synagogue in Cairo, dating back to the 9th century. It is said to be built on the site where baby Moses was found by Pharaoh’s daughter in a basket. It has a beautiful interior with wooden carvings, stained glass windows, and a Torah ark.
